Personal Wedding Vows

The exchange of marriage vows during your ceremony holds profound significance. It’s a moment for you both to express your love, promises and commitments to one another.

Let’s get started on building your personal vows

The segment of your ceremony dedicated to marriage vows holds immense significance. It’s the juncture where you can openly convey your love and commitments to one another.

Initiating your vows can be made simpler by jotting down your responses to the following inquiries:

What endears you to your partner?
What do you cherish about your relationship?
What led you to the decision of marriage?
What pledges do you make for the future?
It’s advisable to ensure your vows are not overly lengthy, as this can make it challenging to deliver them smoothly on the day.

I also encourage couples to keep their marriage vows a secret from one another until the wedding day. This adds an element of anticipation and when you share your vows during the ceremony, it becomes a truly precious gift you exchange.

Don’t hesitate to draft your marriage vows. If they stem from the depths of your heart, there’s no wrong way to express them.

Legal Section of your Vows

It’s important to keep in mind that according to subsection 45(2) of the Marriage Act, there are specific minimum words (or vows) that are required to be spoken by the couple for a non-religious (civil) ceremony to be legally recognized as a marriage ceremony. Both individuals entering the marriage must express these vows to each other.

This legal section can be added at the start of your personal vows.
