Embracing Love & Heritage: Candice & Grant’s Stunning Scottish-Inspired Wedding

Candice and Grant’s Scottish accent wedding was a beautiful celebration of this special couple’s relationship.

During the time Candice and Grant were building their love story they realised that they had found the person who filled their heart. After 3 years together they decided that this was the person they wanted to spend the rest of their life with, so they married on the 6th May 2022.

Candice and Grant’s ceremony was full of fun, laughter, and many special moments. It started with the sounds of bagpipes as Candice entered the ceremony with her mum and dad by her side, and Grant got his first look at his beautiful bride. From the funny poems, the beautiful words Candice and Grant wrote to each other in their vows, the traditional Scottish ritual, and the kiss sealing their new union of marriage, this was a ceremony to be remembered.

In this Real Wedding Story, find out from our bride, Candice, how she and Grant created their special Scottish accented ceremony in Orange NSW.

Bride’s Look

My look was a princess A-Line dress with plenty of sparkles. I chose it because I felt so beautiful and comfortable in it.

Groom’s Look

My wonderful husband wore the traditional Stewart Kilt. He wanted to honour his heritage by wearing his families tartan.

Wedding Party Fashion

Our wedding party wore teal my favourite colour and it tied in nicely with the Royal Stewart Kilt. The bridesmaids wore long formal dresses, they chose themselves. While the groomsmen wore the black shadow kilt, with matching teal ties, tying it all nicely together.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was very engaging and our guests were laughing the whole way through. It was great because we were able to express ourselves naturally. We had two of our friends do a reading for us.

One sentimental poem inspired by The Princess And The Frog:

For the way, you changed my plans. For being the perfect distraction. For the way, you took the idea that I have. Of everything that I wanted to have. And made me see there was something missing. For the ending of my first beginning. And for the rare and unexpected friend. For the way, you’re something that I’d never choose But at the same time, something I don’t wanna lose And never wanna be without ever again. You’re the best thing I never knew I needed. So when you were here I had no idea. You are the best thing I never knew I needed. So now it’s so clear, I need you here always.

And one with humours reading inspired by Joey Tribbiani from the TV show Friends, that our guests loved.

“It is a love based on giving and receiving. As well as having and sharing, And the love that they give and have is shared and received. And through this having and sharing and receiving. We too can share and love and have and receive…When I think of the love that these two givers and receivers share, I can not help but envy the lifetime ahead of having and loving and giving and…And then I can’t think of a good word for right here”.

Wedding Ritual by Tanya

Candice and Grant included the pinning of the tartan ritual in their ceremony to acknowledge Grant’s Scottish heritage.

The pinning of the tartan ritual is a Scottish tradition when the groom’s father presents the family tartan to the bride after the couple has been declared married. This is to show the bride that the groom’s family accepts her into the clan.

After Candice and Grant were pronounced husband and wife, as a nod to the Stewart proud Scottish ancestry and as a gesture of welcome, Grant’s father offered Candice a ribbon made with the Stewart family tartan to tie onto her wedding bouquet.

The Brides View On The Importance Of A Good Celebrant

Having an amazing celebrant is extremely important. They are the ones who control every moment of the ceremony. Tanya made our ceremony about us and she truly understood who my partner and I were and made sure our ceremony suited us. The most memorable part of our day was our ceremony and that was because Tanya enabled us to have that.

How The Couple Personalised The Wedding

A unique element we included was a Scottish ritual where the father of the grooms presents the Stewart tartan to the bride and wraps it around the flowers as a symbol of accepting the bride into the family.
